Sermon Notes

The meal widely known as the Last Supper has been the focus of literary, artistic, and theological works.  It is understandable that so much attention would be devoted to this single moment in human history and in the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ.  The setting of the scene is steeped in historical significance, and we are told that that it occurred on the “day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed” (Luke 22:7).  In order to begin to understand the weight of what Jesus says during the course of this meal, we must understand the purpose of the meal as it began that historical night.  When we gain a better perspective of God’s provision of grace amidst His own judgment against sin, we will better understand why it is amazing that Jesus Christ is THE “Passover Lamb” (1 Cor. 5:7).
