Sermon Notes

Nakedness is a term associated with exposure, and rightfully so. The Bible uses the term to describe physical as well as moral exposure. To be morally uncovered is to have one’s goodness (or lack thereof) on display. In the Garden of Eden, we are told, Adam and Eve were utterly exposed and without shame. Conversely, the universal experience of their posterity has been far different. In fact, it seems the more we are exposed the more shame we feel. This feeling of shame may actually be a gift of grace, however, and the Gospel offers guilty sinners a marvelous covering indeed. From where does our shame come? And, What hope does the Gospel bring to shameful sinners?
