Sermon Notes

In every sermon, we try to ask and answer the question, “What does God intend to teach us by including this passage in sacred Scripture?” In some passages this question is easy to answer, and in others it is a not quite so simple. Sometimes, the answer to such a question is very difficult. Genesis Chapter 36 is probably not widely read among most Christians, and it is even less widely understood. However, there is actually a very profound and thoroughly biblical message here for those who will hear it. First, there is an obvious (at least once you slow down enough to consider it) contrast between Esau’s worldly success and Jacob’s lack thereof. And second, the contrast between worldly power and God’s rule that far exceeds it is a major theme throughout the Bible. In this message we will discuss Esau’s example and the implications of it on our lives.
