RETHINKING THE CHURCH: BAPTIST DISTINCTIVES |BAPTISM: RAISED TO NEW LIFE
Every community, association, and group has at least one designating sign of inclusion. If you are included, then you bear the mark or marks of the group. If you are excluded (even if only for a time), then you lack the designating mark or marks. Christianity has a number of designating signs, but the singular initiating sign of Christian discipleship is “believer’s baptism.” Believers in Christ seek to obey and learn from their Savior and Master, knowing that every benefit comes from being united to Christ. In this message, we shall consider some basic questions about baptism, and we shall also note the life associated with those who are baptized followers of Christ."RETHINKING THE CHURCH: BAPTIST DISTINCTIVES | BAPTISM: RAISED TO NEW LIFE ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE |TRUE LOVE IN A HATEFUL WORLD
When the average non-Christian person hears the Gospel of Jesus Christ, hatred is probably not going to be the word that best describes their reaction. Apathy, confusion, curiosity, excitement, or a host of other words might more readily be applicable to what is likely to be perceived. However, Jesus dropped a bombshell (as He commonly does) when He said, “the world hates me” (Jn. 7:7). In this message, we shall consider the meaning of this statement and Jesus’ truly loving commitment to sinners among a hateful world. Furthermore, we shall attempt to embrace the love Jesus offers and the example He has put forth."JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | TRUE LOVE IN A HATEFUL WORLD ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE |LIFE-GIVING FOOD FROM GOD
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is so much more profound and powerful than most of us imagine. The Bible speaks of a decisively loving God and the demonstration of that love in real human history, as well as God applying that love to our lives in real time. The Bible explains what it means that God loves guilty sinners and how some sinners respond with overwhelming gratitude to that love. In this message, we will plumb the depths of God’s decisive love. There is no doubt that we shall, by God’s grace, come away amazed, humbled, grateful, and confident."JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | LIFE-GIVING FOOD FROM GOD ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE |THE BETTER PROPHET
Just imagine it... A multitudinous crowd gathers around one man. The man is known far and wide as a healer, a miracle-worker, and a teacher from God Himself. Speculation about this man is out of control, and there are mixed feelings about who he really is. The man tells everyone to sit on the cool grass, and he spontaneously creates enough bread to feed the whole bunch, as much as they want. “The legend is true!” the people thought. “Let’s have him as king! He can provide for us, and we will be his people!” However, the miraculous teacher refuses the offer. He will have none of their acclaim, for his kingly office is not theirs to issue. In this message, we will consider the point of John’s narrative and how we might wisely listen to the better prophet – Jesus Christ."JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE BETTER PROPHET ".

RETHINKING THE CHURCH: BAPTIST DISTINCTIVES |THE EARTHY WORD OF GOD
Southern Baptists have traditionally been called “people of the book” because of their tight grip on the Bible as the word of God. Many in higher education today deny such a ‘naïve’ claim about the Bible, but it is still quite common for regular Christians to say they believe the Bible is truly the word of God. And yet, the average Christian lives as though the Bible is irrelevant, outdated, and inaccessible. Many Bibles sit on shelves or tables without the slightest bit of wear, since the purchaser of that precious book hasn’t the inkling to mine its innumerable treasures. In this message, we shall consider what Southern Baptists mean by saying, “the Bible is the word of God;” and we shall consider some practical applications for those who want to live as though they really believe it is. JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE |SEEKING GLORY
All those who are in Christ will be glorified with Him. Additionally, the Church (Christ’s visible body in the world) is adorned with God’s glory, shining brightly as she reflects the glory of Her King and Savior. And yet, the glory only God can give often appears humiliating from the worldly perspective. Individual Christians and local churches alike are frequently the object of ridicule and not reverence. What are we to make of this? Is God’s word contradictory? How can inglorious Christians, which are the members of an inglorious Church, seek God’s glory in the world?"JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | SEEKING GLORY ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE |THERE IS LIFE IN THE SON
As humans, we all know that mortality will prove itself to be our own personal disease. We may suppress this knowledge, and we may even fight hard against it, but we cannot deny it forever. As the only human to ever conquer death, Jesus is the authority on the subject, and He made some blatantly direct statements about death and life. In this message, we will consider the weighty warning and the profound promise of Jesus’ message regarding life and the final resurrection. "JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THERE IS LIFE IN THE SON ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | MARVELING AT THE SON
Jesus Christ said and did some stunning things, but not the kinds of things one might expect from a historical figure who turned the world upside-down. Jesus never wrote a book, never ruled as an earthly king, and never amassed public prestige or worldly wealth. He lived as an odd Jewish teacher and prophet, and He died as a lonely martyr. And yet, Jesus made claims of incomparable height... He claimed to be equal with God, the judge of the world, and the giver of life. The biblical Jesus deserves our astonishment, but life comes to those who hear and believe Him. "JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | MARVELING AT THE SON ".

    COMMUNION SUNDAY |REMEMBERING CHRIST
For nearly 2,000 years Christians have celebrated, remembered, and proclaimed the person and work of Christ through the ordinance of Communion (or Lord’s Supper). However, many professing Christians disagree about what this ordinance means or what Christians actually do when they participate in it. In this message, we shall take a brief look at the three major views of the Lord’s Supper, noting the strengths and weaknesses where we find them. We shall also emphasize the meaning and value of remembering Christ in this special way."COMMUNION SUNDAY | REMEMBERING CHRIST ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE |LIVING LIKE WE BELIEVE JESUS
Jesus Christ is both the Savior of sinners and the Judge of the world. Both concepts should always be kept in close proximity in our minds, but often we are inclined towards one over the other. While many people deny Jesus’ ability to judge the world, they often reject Jesus because of His claims to do so (particularly His claims of divinity). Many other people love the idea of Jesus as rescuer, but they resist any attempt to bring them under submission to Jesus as Lord, Ruler, or Master. In this message, we will consider these two distinct responses and the consequences of them. For it seems that the Gospel writer is calling his reader to avoid both.
