The Last Supper : Jesus is the lamb of God
The meal widely known as the Last Supper has been the focus of literary, artistic, and theological works.  It is understandable that so much attention would be devoted to this single moment in human history and in the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ.  The setting of the scene is steeped in historical significance, and we are told that that it occurred on the "day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed" (Luke 22:7).  In order to begin to understand the weight of what Jesus says during the course of this meal, we must understand the purpose of the meal as it began that historical night.  When we gain a better perspective of God's provision of grace amidst His own judgment against sin, we will better understand why it is amazing that Jesus Christ is THE "Passover Lamb" (1 Cor. 5:7).

The Teaching of Christ : I Am
When Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life..." His statement was groundbreaking (Jn 14:6).  Jesus Christ's message to all who heard Him was interestingly original and incredibly consistent with the message God had been sending to humanity from the very beginning (Gen. 3:15; Gal. 3:8-9).  Jesus made several assertions known as the "I am" statements.  He called Himself the door, the good shepherd, and the light of the world.  All of these are significant, and Jesus seems to always say much with fewer words.  There are tremendous implications for this short statement from the voice of Jesus, and there is good reason for us to think more carefully about how we hear and understand it.

The Miracles of Jesus : Identifying Signs
When Jesus calmed the storm that threatened the lives of His disciples, the men were more afraid and not less.  The cause of their original fear was the raging wind and waves, but now their source of fear was the omnipotent man who now stood in reaching distance of them as He rode along in their boat.  “Who is this man who commands even the wind and waves, and they obey him?”  This encounter demonstrates Jesus’ identity, His authority, and His majesty.  With this Jesus in our focus, life’s storms can be less terrifying and we may actually find rest in Him regardless of our circumstances.

    What is the Church?
I wonder if the answer that many might give to the question (“What is a church?”) might be less than helpful; at times it may even be dangerous.  One’s understanding of what defines a church will have a direct impact on his or her expectation of church membership. The Bible actually has much to say about what a church is and what a church is supposed to do.

The Transfiguration : Divine Affirmation & Perfect Peace
One normal day three ordinary men were overwhelmed by the God of the universe who invaded time and space to deliver a message.  The message was profound, it struck awe and fear in the hearts of those who heard and saw, and it brought perfect peace in its wake.  In this awesome moment, Jesus is affirmed as the King of Glory and He brings incredible peace to all those who look to Him.

The Good Confession : Answering the Hard Question
Peter is known for speaking quickly, but sometimes he is recorded as saying things that are truly brilliant.  Peter is commended for answering correctly after Jesus asks, "Who do you day I am?"  In John chapter 6, Peter answers another of Jesus' questions with candor and sincerity.  Christians may be encouraged by Peter's answer today.

The Baptism : A Marvelous Scandal
The Baptism of Jesus is a remarkable moment in His earthly ministry.  Jesus humbles Himself beyond imagination, He is affirmed by the highest authority of all time, and sinners find a heavenly Father who delights in them because of the person and work of Jesus Christ.

    Marriage Defined and Defended
Marriage has become a "wax nose" for many in our culture today, a thing to be shaped and molded as anyone sees fit.  The concept of marriage, however, goes back much further than many may realize.  The Bible has much to teach us about marriage and the value of this marvelous institution.  Marriage is clearly defined and held in high honor on the pages of holy Scripture.

The Man From Nazareth : A Better Man
Jesus is both God and man, and His humanity is just as essential to His person and work as His deity.  The reason for His humanity is the fallen sinfulness of every other human.  In order to make sinners able to enjoy the presence of God, Jesus lived the perfectly good and obedient life that the Father requires of all humans.  Jesus truly is the better man and the perfect representative to take the place of sinful humanity.

The Incarnation : God With Us
In a sense, it is right to say that Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem to His mother, Mary.  Yet, in another sense, it is right to say that the One called Jesus had no beginning at all.  Both God and man, Jesus Christ is the supremely unique Son of God.  While the concept of Jesus' two natures (deity and humanity) may boggle our minds, the reality of this union in the person of Jesus Christ is the central focal point of Christianity.
