Of Faith Or Under Curse
Series: Galatians
Curses from God is not a subject that most think much about these days. Many imagine a god that would never be so inconsiderate as to curse anyone or anything. Some believe in a god that is too impotent to do something so audacious as curse something or someone. Others still deny that any god exist who could curse at all. However, the Bible is quite interested in the subject of curses from God. Furthermore, the Bible is very interested in describing how sinners may avoid the curse from God. The Bible understands all humanity as being in one of two categories – Under the Curse or Of Faith. Which are you?

A Gospel That Saves And Grows
    Series: Galatians
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a profound interjection of divine truth into in the midst of fleshly and sinful experiences. It seems that all humans are willing to admit that something has gone wrong, but few there are in our day that are willing to admit that the error finds its origin within the human will and heart. Credulously, humanity aims at personal recovery through various methods, which amount to nothing more than recycled spasms of futility. But God offers real freedom and lasting peace, and He demands that we respond with trust in the promise He has made.

    The Gospel Is Everything
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a story of real human history. Jesus of Nazareth is claimed to have lived, died, and arisen from the dead to live forevermore. This story either is true or it isn't. If it is true, then it is the biggest and most incredible story of all time. God has indeed offered grace to sinners through Jesus Christ. If it is true, then Jesus has real authority over all humanity. If it is true, then this story is vital to everyone everywhere; and it is the story that overrides and trumps every other story. There is good reason to believe that the story is true, and we who trust in this risen Savior await the final consummation of all that He has told us in this marvelous story.

    Justification Through Faith Alone
    Series: Galatians
The book of Galatians may rightly be labeled the broken record of Paul's exhortation to believe Christ as an effective Savior. Sinners are sinful, and God is holy. This is not a complicated idea to grasp, but man seems incessantly persistent in his effort to right himself before God. Man is either supremely confident that he can and will justify himself before God, or he suffers ultimate despair in the pit of his own depravity as he comes to grips with the reality that he cannot justify himself at all. God offers perfect justification through Christ, and the doctrine of justification – how God justifies sinners – is the crux of Christianity.

Walking In Step With The Gospel
    Series: Galatians
The Gospel message is not a superstitious item, an incantation, a spell, or a charm. It is not something that a person may simply add to their collection of beliefs and practices. The Gospel of Jesus Christ changes everything! The Gospel is a message to be embraced or rejected. The one who believes the Gospel may and must live according to the truths embraced, and the Gospel has something to say about everything. It may rightly be said that the Christian life is lived well by diligently seeking to understand all things anew in light of the pervading Gospel of Christ.

    Unity In The Gospel
    Series: Galatians
At first glance, there may not seem to be much in this short passage for use in our lives today. An ancient group of outcasts welcomes in and joins forces with another ancient messenger and outcast, and all promise to keep some poor people in mind as they proceed in their task. This seems hardly noteworthy. However, in this small passage we find a marvelous pattern for every Christian community. We see the basis for unity, the fellowship of genuine and lasting bonds, and the proper progression of communal Christian growth. A society of Christians in the 21st century may indeed learn much from this seemingly obscure account.

    Reconciled To Proclaim Reconciliation
    Series: Galatians
The message of the Judaizers was miserable observance of a wordily system of works-based righteousness. It was so terrestrial; exactly the kind of system that man is inclined to produce for his own self-generatated salvation. Paul's message was the opposite. He rejected public prestige, he found royal ambassadors among despicable evildoers, and he claimed the authority to do so from the King Himself. In all of this, the Apostle Paul invites all Christians everywhere to live in light of God's redeeming message and His power to save.

    Our Joy in God’s Glory
For the vast majority of Americans today, personal happiness is the chief and highest goal. "What makes me happy?" is the question that defines morality, purpose, and even truth. Regrettably, this kind of thinking is pervasive both inside and outside of the church. One might assume in such a cultural climate that the Bible teaches something akin to God's assistance for every Christian in achieving the American Dream. However, the message of Christianity is actually in stark contrast to such an idea. Temporal happiness is the antithesis of God's promise for believers. Instead, all who glory in God alone may possess Joy – real and lasting Joy.

    An Unlikely Pedigree
    Series: Galatians
At the end of the first chapter of Galatians we find a peculiar story from a man greatly used by God. It is peculiar, not because it was strange for him to say what he said, nor because he said something that is hard to understand. It is peculiar precisely because it is plain and straightforward. It is peculiar because it is the opposite of what one might expect from the mouth or pen of a contemporary American Christian leader (or follower). Paul goes out of his way to list his lacking connections and his tremendous social baggage, and this to prove his Gospel authority. He is uninterested with people of prestige, unhindered by absent acclaim, and only concerned with the congruent content of the Gospel message. Professing Christians today might learn a thing or two from Paul's example here.

    “We exist for God’s Glory”
Very many churchgoers today, and those who are not interested in organized religion, have a very low view of God and an exaggerated focus upon themselves.  This is not new, and outside of the church this is to be expected, but it is agonizingly regrettable that this misappropriation of emphasis and focus has become commonplace inside of the Christian church.  It is the basest human sin to exchange the glory of God for some lesser counterfeit, yet every human is meant to find supreme satisfaction in the glory of God.  Additionally, every local church is commissioned to be a bastion of God-glorifying individuals in covenant community together.  We exist, as does everything, for the glory of God.
