JOHN | THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | BELIEVE AND PROCLAIM
John’s Gospel might be boiled down to a few potent proclamations, and John’s purpose statement is certainly one of the most important. It is clear that John wants his reader to believe in Jesus, and his desire is motivated by both the person of Christ and the gift Christ alone can give to those who believe. Both in John’s words and in his example, he calls his reader to believe in Jesus Christ and to proclaim life in His name to all who will believe. May God help us all to believe and proclaim. JOHN | THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE TRIUNE GOD
In our day and in our modern American Evangelical culture, it is taboo to draw hard lines around doctrinal statements. Moreover, it is outright offensive to speak in dogmatic terms about high doctrines, especially those that seem too academic, too irrelevant, and/or too exclusive. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is as high as doctrines get, and it is often avoided for all the reasons listed above. May God help us to see the wonder of God’s triunity, and may we know and love the triune God who reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. "JOHN | THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE TRIUNE GOD"

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | RESURRECTION
Religious claims are (and should be) subject to scrutiny. The wise person will thoughtfully consider the origins, evidence, and implications of religious truth-claims. Christianity is built upon the foundation of truths which originate in God and become chiefly revealed in the person of Jesus Christ. In this message, we shall consider the extraordinary force of Christ’s resurrection throughout all space and time."JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | RESURRECTION ".

STAND ALONE MESSAGE ON A BAPTISM SUNDAY | BAPTISM | CHRIST’S COVENANT PEOPLE
Baptism is a topic about which many Christians have disagreed over the centuries. However, the overarching agreement for all orthodox Christians has always centered upon the idea that baptism does serve as the public designation that one is among Christ’s covenant people in the world. In this message, we shall consider the meaning of baptism in the life of the Christian. May God help us to celebrate this marvelous sign and the divine covenant to which it points."Stand Alone Message on a Baptism Sunday _ Baptism _ Christ’s Covenant People".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE AUTHENTIC SAVIOR
Christianity, unlike many other religions in the world, is not a religion of personal subjectivity. It simply is not pragmatic. How one feels about Jesus, or the Bible’s truth claims, or Christians in the world today, has no bearing whatever on the legitimacy of Christianity. The short and direct question must be, “Is it true?” If what the Bible says about Jesus is true, then the argument is over. John, the Gospel-writer, exemplifies Christian witness by making historical truth claims about Jesus and then calling his reader to believe in Jesus. May God help us to follow John’s example."JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE AUTHENTIC SAVIOR ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | BEHOLD THE GLORIOUS CROSS
From an earthly perspective, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is a gripping display of human depravity and lamentable circumstances. Many have seen Jesus as a pitiable historical figure, and His courage in death has earned Him some acclaim. However, there is far more to see here than may first meet the eyes. In this message, we shall consider the Gospel-writer’s record, observing John’s use of deep biblical imagery and emphasis on prophetic fulfillment. May God help us to see the glory of Christ upon the cross!"JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | BEHOLD THE GLORIOUS CROSS ".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE SOVEREIGN GOD
In Jesus’ final hours, we see Him beaten, mocked, and crucified. We hear a cacophony of malicious voices, demanding Christ’s degradation and murder. And yet, in the midst of all of this, Jesus thunders a powerful word of stabilizing clarity. He claims divine sovereignty over all of these events and actions. In this message, we shall observe the scene in John 19, and consider the words of divine sovereignty Jesus speaks."JOHN : THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE SOVEREIGN GOD".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | A DEMANDING INVITATION
What does Jesus invite sinners to do? This is a good question to consider, especially for those familiar with the churchy language of an “invitation.” We would also do well to consider the tone or the posture of Christ’s invitation to sinners. In this message, we shall see the bitter irony of religious and political obsessions, and we shall also see a piercing invitation from Christ’s own mouth. We shall observe that Christ’s invitation is exceedingly gracious and superlatively demanding. "JOHN_ THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE _A DEMANDING INVITATION".

JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE CUP IS EMPTY
The first question of the Heidelberg catechism is, “What is your only comfort in life and death?” This is a good question, indeed! How would you answer? Well, the writers begin their answer, saying, “That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who, with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins...” In this message, we shall consider the “cup” which Christ consumed for His people at the cross. We shall marvel at the substitutionary work of Christ, and we shall praise Him that the cup is empty."JOHN: THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE | THE CUP IS EMPTY".
