Membership Covenant of First Baptist Church of Diana, Texas

1)  I promise to submit to the Bible, and the truths it contains, in all areas of my life (2Timothy 3:16-17; Deuteronomy 6:5, 17-18).
I understand that God’s word, the Bible, is profitable and useful for my own instruction, admonition, correction, and training in righteousness. I agree to live by the holy, inspired, inerrant Word of God, and I will live under its authority in every aspect of my life as an expression of my submission to Jesus Christ.

2)  I promise to participate in the life and function of this local church (Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:23-25; Titus 3:14).
I shall regularly participate in the life of First Baptist Church by regularly attending weekly services, consistently participating in a Bible study group, frequently praying for the advancement of the Gospel in and through First Baptist Church, and serving those inside and outside of this church.

3)  I promise to read the Bible, pray and unite with this household of faith (Deuteronomy 10:12-13; Matthew 22:37-40).
I shall seek to love God as much as I am able through the regular reading of the Bible, prayer and fellowship with other believers; and I will work and pray for the unity of First Baptist Church in the bond of peace.

4)  I promise to serve others rather than expecting others to satisfy my preferences (Philippians 2:3-8).
I understand that the goal of every Christian is to become more Christ-like, and Jesus Christ exemplified service and sacrifice beyond compare. While I know that my personal preferences may have both positive and negative motives, I will seek to speak and act in such a way that serves others better than myself.

5)  I promise to lead my family in healthy membership practices (Genesis 2:24; Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 5:22-26, 32-33; Ephesians 6:1-4; 1 Corinthians 7:14).
I understand that God has instituted the family, and He has commissioned the family to be the primary discipling force in the lives of all who comprise each family unit. I acknowledge my responsibility and privilege to serve Christ in my own family by pursuing healthy spiritual practices and leading others in my family to do the same.

6)  I promise to cheerfully and willingly give all that I am able to the work of God through this church (Matthew 25:14-30; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 8-9; 1 Peter 4:10-11).
I understand that any time, treasure and talent I possess is a gift from God; and I will voluntarily, regularly, cheerfully, proportionately and generously give what I have in order express gratitude to God for what He has given and to fulfill the mission of this church. Together with my church family, we will sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines.

7) I promise to strive towards a life of holiness, righteousness, and Christ-likeness (1 Peter 1:13-16, 4:1-3).
I profess that Jesus Christ is the Lord of all creation and the Lord of me. I will, therefore, seek to honor Him through obedience and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, strive to walk in holiness in all areas of my life in worship to Christ (1 Peter 1:13- 16, 4:1-3). All believers should strive to put sinful attitudes and actions to death while stirring and stimulating love and good deeds through the Spirit. Examples of how I will practically do this are listed here:
a. I will fight against my sinful desires, which may include denying God the worship and glory He alone deserves, imagining God to be other than He has revealed Himself to be, profaning the name and renown of God, neglecting to pursue God as the primary object of my affection and attention, refusing to honor and submit to the authorities God has placed over me, failing to do all that I am able to preserve human life, undermining my own chastity or that of others, stealing, lying, envying or grieving at the good of others, and other sinful conduct as the Bible defines such things (Romans 1:28-32; Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 5:18; James 3:3-18).

8) I promise to submit to and participate in biblical discipline and accountability (Psalm 141:5; Matthew 18:15-20; 1 Corinthians 5:9-13; Hebrews 12:5-11).
I will submit to the discipline of God through His Holy Spirit, and the practical application of that discipline through the structure of this local church body, by following the biblical procedures for church discipline where sin is evident in another (the hope of such discipline is always repentance and restoration). As part of this structure, I will be willing to receive righteous and loving discipline when approached biblically by fellow believers and submit to the authority of the leadership of this local body, including its pastoral staff.

9) I promise to honor my covenant with the other members of FBC Diana (Titus 3:1-11; Joshua 1:6-9; Philippians 4:13).
I recognize that church membership is a gift, and neither this document nor my own faithfulness to it will be perfect. However, by God’s grace and with His strength I will seek to serve the Lord and honor my mutual covenant in membership with others in the community of First Baptist Church of Diana, TX.
